Drugs that can be abused vary in properties  and uses as well as in their look. Most of them are illegally distributed or  bought. Some are sold legally in pharmacies, the what-so-called prescription drugs. All of these when taken in excess and not  for the purpose of medication will result to drug addiction. The immense dependence on them without reason is regarded as a disease that should be addressed instantaneously.

Alcoholism , on the other hand, is universal. Anyone is prone to it. Extreme intake of intoxicating substance at an unimaginable rate and amount  can lead one to addiction.

The  reliance of an alcoholic or  drug addict  on  chemical  can put  all aspects of his life at risk. On the contrary, his dependence on a substance ultimately brings him delight , contentment and feeling of apathy to the society where he belongs. With the consistent presence of the alcohol or drug in the brain of an addict, its system becomes adapted   to it , and therefore its natural course is changed that results to altered behaviour of the addict.  It influences too his physical appearance as the mind can no longer focus on the right perspective but on the great desire for the chemical to be ingested.

Recovery from addiction and alcoholism is not easy nor possible without the proper medication and professional therapeutic assistance and support groups. An addict should be placed in a rehab center for accurate evaluation of his addiction and identification of the appropriate treatment. The healing process may be painful at first, depending on the reaction of the addict to it. But as the recovery methods continue, he will be able to experience the essence of pain in relation to the effective withdrawal from his addiction.
